District Governor Ken Tucker

Fellow Lions:

Today is another great day to be a Lion.

My how the time flies.  We are already half-way through this Lions year.  The health of District 23C is good.  Clubs are meeting and conducting service projects and fundraisers; cabinet chairpersons are actively promoting their projects; and the zone chairs, region chairs and vice district governors are working diligently.  I have completed just over ½ of my club visitations and have been met with a great deal of enthusiasm.  Our membership this year started at 1944 members and as of today we are down 11.  I am optimistic that our by the end of this Lions year, we will end up with a plus in membership.  To date, I have installed 10 new members, and presented several awards to deserving members.

Our district has participated in many activities: the New England Lions Council meeting with a focus on GMT/GLT; a two day workshop on Lions Quest attended by approximately 12 school districts including one from District 23A and one from New Hampshire; many holiday parties; an eyeglass wrapping party with the Norwich and Montville Mohegan-Pequot Lions, where 1435 pair of glasses were wrapped and shipped out.  Earlier this month, in our district’s signature event, through the coordination of our LCIF District Chairperson, PDG Mary Krogh, twenty clubs nominated a non-Lion humanitarian from their community.  The resumes were impressive and a “Humanitarian of the Year” was selected.  The evening’s festivities featured appearances from Joey Dee from Joey Dee and the Starlighters, Dorothy & Toto, Melvin Jones, with Mohegan Tribal Chief Lynn Malerba as our keynote speaker.  International Carolyn Messier with PDG Norm and Council Chairman Sia Dowlashahi also attended with ID Carolyn presenting the Humanitarian of the Year a Melvin Jones Fellowship.  Many clubs provided donations to LCIF and the event was one to be remembered.

With only 6 months to go in this Lions year, there is still much work to be done.  I am so excited about the work that the Lions of District 23C are doing.  You continue to change lives daily, one person at a time.

Yours in Lionism,

Ken
